GEO tools focus on AI answers and the pages behind them, while the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit and Ahrefs Brand Radar measure AI visibility next to your SEO data. 3 questions decide which you need.
If measurement next to your SEO data is enough, your suite may be enough. Grimpe does not replace an SEO suite, and has no keyword or backlink database. It sits next to one.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit measures how a brand appears in AI answers alongside Semrush's SEO data.
What it offers:
- An AI Visibility Score, which compares how often your brand is mentioned with the median for your top competitors.
- Share of voice and sentiment.
- Prompt Tracking on platforms like Google AI Mode and ChatGPT, updated daily.
- Competitive gaps, and an AI Search Site Audit for technical issues that could block AI crawlers.
Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar is an AI visibility tool that shows where a brand is mentioned across AI platforms, alongside search demand, web visibility, and video visibility.
What it offers:
- Mentions, citations, impressions, and AI Share of Voice, as defined in the Ahrefs documentation.
- A split between pages cited as sources and pages "found in" a response, retrieved in the background.
- Mention and citation gaps: answers where competitors appear and you do not.
- Tracking across 6 AI platforms, available as a standalone tool.
Ahrefs notes that AI platforms are non-deterministic, so the same query can return different answers, and that AI Share of Voice can change depending on how the entities are set up.
Where Dedicated GEO Tools Differ
Both suites are strong if you want AI visibility next to your SEO data. Dedicated GEO tools focus on AI answers, and they vary widely: many report, and fewer rewrite pages or test them before publishing. So judge any GEO tool on what it does after the report. See GEO Tools vs. AI Writing Tools.
3 Questions to Decide
- Do you need to measure, or also to get pages changed? Measurement tells you where you stand. Someone still has to change the page.
- Do you need to test before publishing? Testing a draft is different from measuring a page after it goes live.
- Do you need to see the real answer behind each number? A score shows what happened. The answer shows why.
If you answer no to the last two and measurement is your job, your suite may cover it.
Where Grimpe Fits
We built Grimpe for the work after the report. It rewrites a page or writes a new one from your own material, and returns the finished page.
- Pages changed: Rewrite keeps your meaning, terminology, and data. Create writes the page you are missing. Prompt-Specific Optimization aims a page at one question.
- Tested before publishing: Simulate tests a live page, a rewrite, or a draft in a real AI engine. In a 455-run test battery, it agreed with a real AI engine on which pages get cited 96% of the time. That is our own measurement, not a customer result.
- The real answer: Citations links each result to the answer it came from.
Why we care about the page itself: in a Grimpe test on one page, the version holding the real answer was cited in 3 of 3 runs, and a same-length version with unrelated facts in 0 of 3. A complete answer is necessary, but it does not guarantee a citation. See How Do I Get My Website Cited by ChatGPT?.
How to Do This in Grimpe
- Confirm AI bots can reach the page with Access.
- See what ChatGPT reads first with AI Preview.
- Find the weakest pages with the AI Readiness Score.
- Fix them with Rewrite, or write what is missing with Create.
- Test with Simulate before publishing.
- Track real answers in the Visibility Dashboard and Citations.
